Spooky season is officially here!
I’m officially done with the first book in my new series. It’s clocked in at roughly 120,000 words, which is a solid length for the genre.
I’m starting on book 2 now. The plan is to release chapters on RoyalRoad in early 2027, and then begin releasing them on Amazon/etc in the Spring. The early chapter releases on serial sites like RR let a different group of readers enjoy the story—please some of them give me some early feedback and proofreading! That kind of support is invaluable to an indie author.
I’ll keep you posted as the new year gets closer, but I’m super excited for you guys to read this series.
Reading/Listening recap:
In September, I listened to “Blackflame” and “Skysworn” (books 3 and 4 of Cradle) by Will Wight. As expected, they were excellent, and I finally got to hear a certain dragon turtle in all his glory. Looking forward to book 5 when another fan-favorite character makes their debut. Currently finishing up “The Gate of the Feral Gods” (book 4 of Dungeon Crawler Carl) by Matt Dinniman. This is another one I read first, and thoroughly enjoy hearing the nuance and depth added by the narration.
As for physical reading, I read “The Deep” by Nick Cutter. Definitely a great spooky season horror read, but check the trigger warnings before delving in. There’s some dark stuff in there. I also branched out a bit and checked out a scifi horror romance book called “Thrum” by Meg Smitherman. It gave serious “Beyond the Aquila Reef” vibes, but with a fresh twist. Check the trigger warnings, but this is another one I recommend.
Currently reading the first book in the “Gunmetal Gods” series by Zamil Akhtar. I’m still pretty early on in the book, but I’m hooked already. Currently listening to “Children of Time” by Adrian Tchaikovsky. This one’s got me hooked as well!
I think that’s it for updates. Catch you guys in a month.
